Is the calculator estimate completely accurate?

The calculator provides a highly realistic baseline based on standard Surrey market rates (£60 to £150 per m²). However, it assumes straightforward access and standard base conditions. If your driveway requires extensive excavation, complex drainage, or retaining walls, the cost will be at the higher end or slightly above.

What does the £60 - £150 per m² range mean?

The lower end (£60-£85) represents an overlay — laying resin directly onto an existing, sound tarmac or concrete base. The higher end (£100-£150) represents a full dig-out, where we must remove the existing surface (like block paving or grass), install a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base, and add a binder course before laying the resin.

Are materials and labour included?

Yes, the estimated range includes both the materials (resin, aggregate, standard edging) and the labour to install it. It does not include VAT, which will be added to your final formal quote.

Why does depth matter?

For standard driveways taking normal car traffic, 18mm is the industry standard depth. If you have heavier vehicles, a steep gradient, or are overlaying a slightly uneven surface, a 20mm or 25mm depth may be required, which increases the material cost.

How to use this calculator

Getting a price is straightforward. If you don't know your exact measurements, a rough pace out (one large stride is roughly one metre) will give you a good enough baseline for this tool.

Measure the length of the area in metres.
Measure the width of the area in metres.
Adjust the resin depth if necessary (leave at 18mm for a standard driveway).
Adjust the cost rate (leave at £85 for a standard average, push higher if you know you need a full excavation).

What affects the final cost?

The biggest variable in driveway installation is what is currently under your feet. The resin itself is a fixed cost, but the groundworks can vary wildly.

The Sub-Base: If you have an existing, solid tarmac base, we can often overlay it. If you have block paving or grass, we must dig it out and build a new base.
Drainage requirements: If your driveway slopes towards your house, we must install Aco drains to comply with regulations.
Edging: A high-quality resin driveway needs a solid edge to pack against. If you have no existing walls or kerbs, we will need to install brick or block edging.

Honest Caveat

What this estimate doesn't include: The calculator gives you the cost for a clean, standard installation. It cannot account for moving manhole covers, dropped kerb applications, complex retaining walls, or removing substantial tree roots. A site survey is required to spot these issues.
