How Resin Bonded Works

The resin bonded process is entirely different from the bound process. Instead of mixing the stone and resin together, a layer of resin is spread across the prepared base using a squeegee.

While the resin is still wet, dry aggregate is scattered heavily over the top until the resin is completely covered. Once cured, the excess loose stone is swept away. This leaves a surface that looks like loose gravel, but is stuck to the ground.

The Drawbacks

• Not Permeable: The solid film of resin seals the ground. It is not SUDS compliant and requires separate drainage.
• Loose Stones: Over time, friction from tyres will cause some stones to break away from the resin, leaving bald patches.
• Rough Texture: The surface is very rough, which is great for grip, but unforgiving on bare feet or if a child falls on it.
