SUDS Regulations Explained
SUDS stands for Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems. These regulations were introduced to combat flash flooding caused by urban development.
The Problem
Historically, homeowners paved their front gardens with non-porous concrete or block paving. During heavy rain, all that water ran straight into the public drains. The drains became overwhelmed, leading to street flooding and sewage overflows.
The SUDS Solution
The regulations mandate that new driveways must handle their own surface water. The water must soak into the ground within the property boundary.
A full-excavation resin bound driveway is the perfect SUDS solution. We use an open-graded MOT Type 3 sub-base and a porous asphalt binder. The resin surface itself is porous. This creates a vertical drainage stack where rain hits the driveway, filters through all three layers, and safely returns to the water table below.
