Charcoal Resin Driveway — Reigate Victorian Villa

Charcoal Resin Driveway — Reigate Victorian Villa

A 70m² charcoal resin bound driveway at a Reigate Victorian villa, replacing loose gravel that had spread across the pavement for years. The clay sub-soil needed full excavation and a proper MOT base before resin could go down.

The Challenge

The gravel was sitting directly on heavy clay with no proper sub-base. The clay retained water and had caused subsidence in spots. Solving that properly meant a near-full excavation.

The Solution

We excavated to 300mm across the full 70m², installed a geotextile membrane to separate the clay from the new base, compacted 200mm of MOT Type 1, and finished with 18mm of Dark Slate Charcoal resin bound. A discreet channel drain runs across the entrance.

The Result

No more gravel on the pavement and no more waterlogged sections after rain. The deep charcoal suits the imposing Victorian frontage well.

"The gravel problem had annoyed us and the neighbours for years. It's transformed the whole front of the house."

— Homeowner, Reigate
