Cheap Resin Quotes: Warning Signs

If you've received a quote that is drastically cheaper than the £60-£150/m² industry average, proceed with extreme caution. A cheap resin driveway is a false economy that usually fails within the first two years.

1. Non-UV Stable Resin (Aromatic)

This is the most common corner cut. Aromatic resin is much cheaper than premium aliphatic (UV-stable) resin. In the shade it looks fine, but within weeks of sunlight exposure, it turns a sickly yellow. A beautiful silver driveway will quickly look brown and dirty.

2. Incorrect Sub-Base

To cut costs on a dig-out, rogue contractors will use less MOT Type 1 stone, fail to compact it properly, or skip the porous tarmac binder course entirely and lay resin directly onto loose stone. The driveway will crack and sink as soon as a heavy vehicle drives on it.

3. Laying Too Thin

Industry standard depth for a driveway is 18mm. Cheap contractors will trowel the resin out to 12mm or even 10mm to save material. It will look identical on day one, but will shatter under the weight of a turning tyre.
