Local Resin Driveway Installers in Epsom

Famous for its racecourse, Epsom is a busy suburban town with a wide range of housing. Victorian and Edwardian terraces near the centre, substantial detacheds in the surrounding roads. About 25 minutes from Weybridge. Based 25 minutes away in Weybridge, our team knows the roads, the housing stock and the local ground conditions.

Colour choice matters more than most people expect. We stock over 40 aggregate blends, from warm buff and ochre tones for older brick properties to slate greys and charcoal mixes that suit contemporary render. We bring samples to every Epsom survey so you can hold them against your actual house.

Fifteen years of resin bound installations in Surrey. Fully accredited and fully insured. Most Epsom and Ewell clients ask about both before anything else, so we lead with them.

Why Epsom Homeowners Choose Resin Bound

A new drive changes how your home looks more than almost any other job outside. Most people come to us fed up with what they have. Loose stone ends up in the hallway. Gravel driveways need raking. Tarmac fades, softens in a hot spell and cracks at the edges. Block paving looks smart for a few years, then the sand washes out, joints fill with weeds and the blocks start to lift.

Resin bound deals with all of that. The stone is mixed with clear resin in a forced action mixer and trowelled out as one seamless surface, so nothing works loose under tyres. No joints. No weeds. No raking. Just a sweep and the occasional wash down.

Laid on the right base, a resin bound driveway should last fifteen to twenty-five years. That longevity is why we back every installation with a five-year workmanship warranty.

Resin Bound or Resin Bond?

Ask three different contractors and you might get three different answers about what "resin bound" means. Clarify it early.

True resin bound uses a forced action mixer to coat every aggregate particle before the material is laid flat. The finished surface is smooth, porous and durable. Resin bond (or resin gravel) applies resin to the base first, then scatters stone on top. The stones sit proud. The surface is not porous under planning definitions. It is cheaper, but it wears around the wheel tracks and can require planning permission on a front drive.

In Epsom we almost always install resin bound. The performance difference over five or ten years makes the initial cost difference worth it.

What We Actually Lay: Materials and Depths

Resin

We use a two-part polyurethane binder, the DALTEX UV-stable system. It cures clear, bonds permanently to the aggregate and does not yellow over time.

Depth

On a driveway we lay at 16 to 18mm minimum. Paths with predominantly foot traffic can be 14 to 16mm. Going thinner on a trafficked surface leads to flex cracks.

Aggregate

We use kiln-dried SUDS-compliant aggregate in 1 to 3mm, 2 to 5mm and 3 to 6mm grades. Larger aggregate gives more texture; finer sizes are smoother and more contemporary.

Systems

We install on MOT Type 1, tarmac and concrete. On sound tarmac or concrete we can overlay directly. Soft or failing surfaces get a full dig-out and new sub-base.

Installation and Access in Epsom

Town centre is busy. Racing periods can complicate access near the Downs. Most residential roads are straightforward.

A high-quality resin bound installation requires proper groundworks. If your current tarmac or concrete driveway is solid, we can often apply the resin directly over it, saving you time and money. If the existing surface is failing, our team handles full excavations and constructs a new MOT Type 1 sub-base to ensure your driveway lasts for decades without sinking or cracking.

What Goes Wrong with Cheaper Installations

  • Wrong resin ratio: Too little resin and the aggregate does not bond properly. Stones start loosening within months.
  • No forced-action mixing: Paddle or gravity mixers leave unmixed pockets. You end up with weak spots and inconsistent colour across the surface.
  • Laid too thin: Below 15mm on a driveway and the surface flexes under vehicles. Cracking follows, sometimes within the first winter.
  • Poor base: Overlaying onto a failing surface or a sub-base that moves. The resin cannot correct a bad base. It telegraphs every crack.
  • Uncertified system: Some installers use generic resin not rated for UV stability or traffic load. The surface yellows and degrades ahead of schedule.

SUDS and Planning Permission in Epsom

Because resin bound surfaces are fully permeable, water drains naturally through the aggregate and back into the ground. Our driveways are fully SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems) compliant.

For homeowners in Epsom, this is straightforward good news. You generally do not need to apply to Epsom and Ewell Borough Council for planning permission to install a new resin driveway, provided the sub-base is also porous. If your project requires dropping the kerb to widen access, we can advise on the process and work alongside the requirements set by Surrey Highways.

Resin Bound Paths, Patios and Pool Surrounds

Resin bound is not just for driveways. We lay it on paths, patios, pool surrounds and garden steps using the same mix and method as the main drive. You can match the aggregate exactly, or choose a different blend to define areas separately. Either way, you get a consistent, low-maintenance surface across the whole of your outdoor space.
