Resin Driveways Surrey

Can you lay resin over block paving?

The short answer is: No. We will never lay resin over block paving.

Some rogue contractors will offer to do this because it is cheap and fast, but it is guaranteed to fail.

Why it fails

Resin bound surfacing is strong, but it relies entirely on the structural integrity of the base beneath it. Block paving is made of hundreds of individual bricks sitting on a bed of sand. They move, rock, and shift under the weight of a car.

If you lay a rigid resin layer over moving blocks, the resin will crack in hundreds of places within the first year.

The Solution

If you have block paving, it must be lifted. We then excavate the sand bed, install a new MOT Type 1 sub-base, and lay a porous tarmac binder course before applying the resin. Read about proper sub-base preparation.
